October 1 . . . Getting Started

Welcome to our new site! As with this blog, sometimes getting started is the tough part. Bear with us as we get up and running. We have retitled “Amy’s Next Chapter”, since that chapter started three years ago to date. Curt and I will both be authors on this page. Truth be told, we were on the last one too.

With the baseball season concluding on a Wednesday, we made to tactical decision to volunteer for the Volleyball Tour in Pullman the following Friday, in an effort to avoid football in October.. . . So far so good, no football on the schedule. The baseball schedule dealt CW and crew a severe blow in 2011 . . . no end of the season party. With the final game at night, it didn’t seem like a wise idea for everyone to start getting rip roaring at the crack of midnight.

We hit the road for Pullman. We are traveling in our new FJ and pulling a 14ft trailer, both of which we acquired this summer. There are a multitude of little things associated with getting them up and running, and the luxury of the trailer has allowed Curt to add some choice toys to make our time in the bush more entertaining. After all, his colleagues have named him the ‘commish of entertainment’. It is his calling. Surprisingly, we were able to pull it all together and depart reasonably on time for Pullman.

While I felt bad that Curt had to learn a whole new sport/scoring system/athlete names for his little volleyball production, I was looking forward to seeing the crew in Pullman. In the end, we had an enjoyable night with none other than Bart Foley and Steve Linger, woke up early to watch “Gameday” from Madison, and were on our way. Something felt a little off. It might have had to do with too many adult beverages the night before at Denny’s, or that Lee Corso chose the Husker headgear. Nonetheless, the whiney racket on the roof needed to stop.

We took the inland route and proceeded towards the Salmon River and Riggins, Idaho where it was a wonderful 93 degrees. In typical fashion, we bought a bag of ice, mailed our bills, and continued down the road to get a few more miles under our belt. We haven’t seen temps that warm since.

We passed the familiar haunts of McCall, Idaho, and camped on the south shore of Lake Cascade. After all, Bucky was taking on Nebraska, and one of our new toys, is satellite tv! Curt quickly busied himself setting up his rinky dink system. And despite his own doubts, we had a clear signal for my game. Victory! (not quite Johnny Drama style, but close enough) We watched, and the Badgers made the Huskers look worse than the Huskies in Lincoln.
