The advertised 80 degrees for Lake Powell finally arrived on Wednesday. Faced with hiking, biking, or paddling . . . we chose the latter. We headed across the bay with intent to circle all the rock formations on the northern shore. With constant anxiety hanging over our heads because of the three mile open water crossing to return home . . . we finally relented and agreed that the impending doom of the southerly winds was not in the cards this glorious afternoon.
Many of the Lake Powell houseboats depart from Wahweap and immediately head up lake, mile after mile, looking for the perfect beach under brilliant sandstone cliffs (we did the same thing five years ago). Powell veterans know such spots can be had just a few leagues from the boat ramp. We stopped at this place for lunch, a nice protected bay with sandy beaches and warm water.
We shared it with two obnoxious kids on jet skis and several houseboats. But it was worth it, because this beach had a very rare commodity on Lake Powell . . .sand and shade. We had looked at this rock formation from camp for the past 7 days, little did we know, an oasis lie just behind it.
We have come to enjoy our little respites from the life on the road, tuning into the Cougars, Packers, Game Fives, and of course Game Day, but we really haven’t used the satellite tv that much. Wednesday was different . . .we had both agreed that Survivor would be our only weekly show that was Must See TV. Upon returning from our paddle, everything we did was geared around being ready to watch TV at 8:00pm PDT. Our evening walk was timed to get us back in time to prepare and eat dinner, with just enough time for the Old Man to have 15 minutes of wiggle room if the satellite dish wasn’t properly tuned. Did people really used to watch television this way?
